Obituary

The funeral service for Anna C. Brown will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor John Berg officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 29th, at 2:05 p.m.

Mrs. Brown, 96, of Lake City, died early Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014 at the Care Center of the Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City.

Anna Caroline Gnotke was born on January 16, 1918 in Millville to Frank and Lydia (Yorde) Gnotke. She was reborn again in Christ through her Baptism shortly after her birth. Anna grew up and attended school at the West Albany School in rural Millville. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the age of 13. In the mid 1940's Anna moved to Minneapolis with her sister to find employment. On November 23, 1953 she married Richard Brown in Iowa.

They lived in the Twin Cities and Anna worked in the offices of the Super Valu Foods, Inc. in Hopkins, for 50+ years, a large part of that time as a Key Punch Operator. Anna moved to Lake City in 1991 to be closer to family after her retirement from Super Valu.

Anna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. She enjoyed spending time crocheting, playing cards, and putting jigsaw puzzles together and decorating her home with them. In September of 2011 she moved to the Care Center and enjoyed playing bingo during the day.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Deborah Brown of Spokane Valley, WA; 4 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eva Gnotke of Lake City and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard on December 23, 1974, her sisters, Dorothy and Ella, and one brother Ernest.

Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday.
