Barbara Ann Knutson, 75, of North Mankato, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at her home.  She was born on July 9, 1944 in Santa Anna, Texas to Agnes (Bremer) and Chester Knutson.

Barb graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City, MN in 1962, and went on to Winona State graduating in 1966.  She taught Physical Education at Winona Senior High School for three years, and then at Mankato West High School for 33 years.  Over the years she has coached and directed Volleyball, Orchestra Dance, Swim Club, and Golf.  She was a member of the Minnesota High School Coaching Association, Winona State Athletic Hall of Fame, Distinguished Alumni Winona State, and Lake City Hall of Fame.  After retiring she spent many winters in Green Valley, AZ, sharing her love of golf with many people.  Barb touched many lives thru teaching, coaching, mentoring, golfing, and volunteering, sharing her two favorite sayings, "Life gives you the journey, you create the path."; and "Cherish yesterday, Live today, Dream tomorrow."

Barb is survived by her brother, Roger (Mary) Knutson, twin sister, Judy Steffenhagen, sister, Sandy (Kevin) Smith; nieces and nephews, and many special friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Mankato with visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 at the church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City with visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers directly to VINE Faith in Action, North Mankato.
