The funeral service for Betty M. Durgin will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.

Mrs. Durgin, 90, of Plainview, passed away on Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2016 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester. Betty lived a short time at Green Prairie Place in Plainview, then moved for dementia care to Rochester, MN in June 2014, where she died.

Betty Mae Durgin was born May 31, 1926 in Plainview to Frank and Wilhelmina (Redding) Tyler. She attended elementary and high school in Plainview. On April 16, 1942 she married Franklin Charles Durgin at Immanuel Lutheran Church; he died November 25, 2013. Married for 71+ years, they enjoyed winters in Arizona for ~13 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo & cards, gardening, golfing, as well as tending to her family & their many friends.

Both Betty & Franklin's families were born & raised in Plainview. Their entire lives were spent helping Plainview grow & prosper. Following WWII, they were self-employed business people; the Durgin's owned and operated the Durgin Trucking/Livestock Company for 53 years. Betty operated the Durgin Freight Lines for ~20 of those years. For a short time, she also operated the Du-Drop Inn (where the DQ is today). In her later years, Betty was employed by Plainview School in the lunch room. In her early years she worked at Nekoska Paper Mill, Nekoska, WI, the Plainview Railroad Depot where she was the last agent to work there, and when very young, for the Kroening family, west of the Plainview School.

Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, and a member of the Dorcas (Pricilla Club) at the church. She was a lifetime member of both the Plainview American Legion Post #179 Auxiliary and the Burkhardt/Roemer VFW Post #4086 Auxiliary in Wabasha.

Betty is survived by her 3 children, Sharon (Thomas) Hanson of Rochester, Roger (Sharon) Durgin of Plainview, and Richard (Rodine) Durgin of Gainesville, FL; 7 grandchildren, Cynthia (Jon) Berg, Ronald (Catherine) Durgin, Randy Durgin, Brian (Mary) Durgin, Lisa (Trevor) Schouweiler, Franklin Durgin-Hanson, and Jesse Hanson; 5 great-grandchildren, Richard Kahn, Hank Kahn, and Monica Berg, Emmerich Durgin, and Lola Durgin; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Kahn and Ryker Kahn. Her husband's sister Marilyn (Jim) Krusmark, her Goddaughter Linda (Kevin) Kyllo, many nieces & nephews and her friend since birth, Juanita (Harold) Hoffman of Hastings, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Iris; 3 brothers, Lloyd (Frances), Alfred (Merna who survives), and twin Harry Tyler; 2 sisters, twin Helen (Emil) Klein and Margaret (Fred) Mickow.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
