Obituary

Carol Louise Rahrmann, 81, of Lake City and formerly of Wabasha, passed away on Saturday evening, March 30, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center. She was born June 29, 1942, in Chicago, IL to Carl and Lydia (Geissler) Lanzel.

Carol grew up in in Wisconsin and attended elementary and junior high school in Bloomer, WI and graduated from St. Felix High School in 1960. She went on to attend Teachers College and graduated in 1963 from Buffalo County Training School in Alma, WI receiving her two-year teaching certificate. Carol then attended Winona State University to receive her bachelor's degree in education, graduating in 1966. Later, she received her master's degree in education. Carol taught 5th grade students for over 30 years at the Wabasha Kellogg Schools, retiring in 1999 and continued to be a substitute teacher for a few more years.

Carol married the love of her life, Walter Rahrmann on June 29, 1963, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. They made their home in rural Wabasha in the Sand Prairie Area, where they raised their three daughters.

Family was a very important part of Carol's life. As a young girl she helped raise her siblings who all thought of her as a second mother. Carol especially enjoyed sewing for her family and passing her passion for sewing on to others. She was well known for all the children's pajamas she sewed, which was her specialty. She also liked gardening and canning the produce from their garden for her family to enjoy as well as going Walleye Fishing off the Teepeota Point Wing Dam. She was a long time Green Bay Packer Fan.  Having family gatherings on game day was an unbroken tradition, as well as entertaining for all the holidays. In her earlier years Walter and Carol belonged to a CB club, and local bowling teams.

Carol is survived by her three daughters, Jill (Lance) Cordes of Byron, Lisa (Jason Carr) Rahrmann and Ann "Annie" (Darren) Thompson both of Rochester; six grandchildren, Alyssa Cordes, Josilyn Cordes, Zachery Carr, Maddie Thompson, Taylor Thompson, and Reece Thompson; a sister, Charlotte (Alan) Alleshaski of Loyal, WI; three brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Lanzel of Perth, Australia, Calvin (Karen) Lanzel of Nekoosa, WI, and Curtiss (Amy) Lanzel of Salt Lake City, UT; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Cheryl, and her husband Walter.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with Father Prince Raja officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Durand, WI. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
