Charles Joseph Halpaus, 86 of Wabasha (formerly of Lake City) went home to be with Jesus on April 16 ^th , 2020 at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha.

He was the oldest of 10 children born to William & Evelyn (Kuhfuss) Halpaus in Millville on December 30 ^th , 1933.  He married Vivian Turner and from that marriage they had two daughters, Tammy and Shelly.

Charlie's love for life and other people always showed by the big smile on his face and his friendly personality, especially when he would tease for fun.  He discovered his adult coloring talent later in life and was extremely proud of the blue ribbon he won at the Wabasha County Fair.

He really loved music, especially Johnny Cash, and you could always hear it playing very loudly.  He loved to fish and enjoyed telling the story about when he caught a muskrat on his fishing line.  (The muskrat actually caught him, but….it's his story :)  Charlie had quite the personality and a zeal for life and was always having fun in one way or another, in which he easily made friends wherever he went.  He had an incredible appetite for sweets, especially chocolate, and would somehow always figure out a way to get plenty of extra treats from anybody that was willing to share.

Charlie is survived by his two daughters that he loved very much, Tammy Huber of Nelson, Wi.  Shelly (Jeff) Snyder of Preston, MN.  Four grandchildren, Samantha Spriggle, Brandi Spriggle, Serena Snyder, and Jesse (Brittany) Snyder.  6 great-grandchildren, Naji, Samia, Ayub, Nasra, Hayden, and Gage.  He is also survived by his siblings, Erna (Jimmy) Davidson, Margie Brown, Willie (Delores) Halpaus, and Hilbert Halpaus, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Shirley Beck and Margaret Beckmann, and three brothers, Eugene, Ronnie, and Lloyd.

The family would like to especially thank St. Elizabeth's Healthcare Center and the kind staff for their compassionate and wonderful care for Charlie over the past 4 years.  He absolutely loved living there.  He befriended a lot of people over the years and will be missed by many, but definitely will not be forgotten for his sweet and spunky personality.

Charles was laid to rest at the Millville Cemetery.
