Daniel Cary Nelson, known to many as "Dutch Flat Dan," passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born on June 12, 1950, in Auburn, California, to Earl Nelson and Helen Eckard, Dan grew up in Pollock Pines, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors, music, and adventure. A talented musician, singer, and songwriter, Dan expressed himself through his guitar and his songs, sharing his gift with all who crossed his path. He was also a proud mason and an avid treasure hunter, always chasing the thrill of discovery and the stories that came with it.

Dan was known for his warm, welcoming spirit, he never met a stranger who didn't quickly become a friend. He loved nothing more than sitting by a good campfire, fishing in peaceful waters, or setting out on his next adventure. His life was guided by curiosity, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of living.

Above all, Dan deeply loved his wife, Timi Nelson, they were married July 4, 2002, with whom he shared a life full of companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they retired to Old Frontenac, Minnesota, where they enjoyed the beauty of nature and the comfort of a life well lived. He also cherished his beloved dogs, especially Thor, who were faithful companions through the years.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Timi Nelson; his stepchildren, Terry W. Thomas Jr. (wife Christian), Mandy Newlove (husband Bryan Newlove), and Jai Fults; and his grandchildren, Lucas King Jr., Thomas Lee King, Heidi Post, Sara Thomas, and Terry W. Thomas III (T3). He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and all who were touched by his music and generous spirit.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his stories, his music, and his adventurous heart. Dan lived simply, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and song.

A life well lived, a man well loved, and a melody that will carry on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Daniel's wishes were to be cremated, and no services will be held at this time.
