The Mass of Christian Burial for Darrel "Dean" Krier, Sr. will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, West Albany in rural Millville with Father Joseph Pete and Reverend Monsignor Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in West Albany with Military Rites by the Millville Valley American Legion Post #579.
Mr. Krier, 78, of Elgin and formerly of Millville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2017.
Darrel Deane Krier was born April 8, 1938 in Pine Island to Raymond and Cecelia (Christensen) Krier. He entered into the US Army in 1956 and served with the 92nd Radio Rely as a communication specialist, and was stationed in Japan and Hawaii. On June 25, 1960 he married Rosalind Schwanke at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Rochester and together they had nine children.
Darrel farmed throughout his life as well as working as a road construction heavy equipment operator. He retired from Ames Construction in 2000.
Darrel loved faming and the rural life, he also enjoyed playing cards, riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling.
Darrel was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 49, the Millville Valley American Legion Post #579. He was also a member of the Four Seasons Snowmobile Club, which he helped to establish with other family members.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosalind; his nine children, Debbie Eddy, Darrel (Holly) Krier, Jr., Denise (Ervin) Gilsdorf, Deanna (Keith) Johnson, Darla (Danny) Marcotte, Dorie (Tim) Eversman, Dawn (Steve) Skelly, Darcie (Eric) McCumber, and Damian (Jessica) Krier; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Gloria (Louis) Mueller, Shirley Berndt, and Audrey Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Carter Eversman, two brothers, Richard and Raymond Krier, and one sister, Margaret Rahman.
The family would like to thank Season's Hospice of Rochester for their compassionate care during Darrel's last week of life.
Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of the service at the church.
