David Edward Franklin, 93, of Goodhue passed away peacefully at the Elysian Care Center of Lake City on Friday morning, May 21, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents David J. and Theresa (McNamara) Franklin and his beloved wife Karleen Franklin.

Dave was a lifelong resident of Goodhue. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1946, and proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces in Korea from 1951-1953. Upon his return from the service, he was employed at the Heaney and Gorman store until 1966 when he became a postal clerk. In 1975 he became a rural letter carrier on Route 3 in Goodhue. He retired from the U.S. Postal service on June 9, 1989. Dave was a proud member of the Goodhue County Rural Letter Carriers Association, the Minnesota Rural Letter Carriers Association, and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He served as secretary of the county unit for many years. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Catholic Order of Foresters, The Goodhue Area Historical Society, and the Goodhue Lions Club. Dave was a lifelong parishioner at Holy Trinity parish in Goodhue.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Catherine (Gerald) Muntifering of St. Cloud, and his brother-in-law Charles (Mary) Wollmering of St. Paul, many cousins, eight nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews all of whom enjoyed spending special time with Dave and Karleen at the "Franklin Inn." Dave will be remembered for his Irish smile, his kindness, and his generosity. It was often said that "Everyone should have an Uncle Dave."

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday, May 28th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Goodhue. Visitation at the church begins at 10:00 AM until the start of Mass. Burial will take place immediately after Mass at the St. Columbkill Cemetery with Military Honors, a luncheon will follow at the Goodhue Lions Club. This Mass and luncheon will also serve as Karleen B. Franklin's Memorial due to the fact that her burial took place during Covid restrictions. Memorials are preferred to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
