The funeral service for David A. Nelson will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10th, at Peace United Methodist Church in rural Elgin/Plainview, MN with Pastor Deanna Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin.

Mr. Nelson, 78, of Elgin, MN died Friday afternoon, January 31, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester Methodist Campus.

David Arthur Nelson was born December 6, 1935 in Rochester to Arthur and Nora (Owens) Nelson. He was a lifetime farmer and farmed in the Zumbro Falls area for 20 years prior to moving to rural Elgin to farm in 1973. In 1956 he married Janice Atkinson and later divorced. On September 2, 1971 he married Constance "Connie" Loos in Sioux Falls, SD. Dave enjoyed gardening, fishing, and his coffee group, and was known as an all-around fix-it man.

"Dave was a very special person, one of those if you knew him you liked him, type of guys. He loved his wife, rarely was one seen without the other, he loved his kids, grand-kids, and great-grand-kids. His Faith, Family, Friends, and Farm were his life. He took pride in his ability to fix and repair about anything. The daily coffee discussion group was of great importance to him. He loved his dog Jack, he loved and missed his 'once in a lifetime pet Fetch, his cat', as we all took comfort in that she was there to meet him as he crossed over to heaven, it was a blessed experience for his family. In his last days, he was able to express his deep love for each of his family members, he even confessed his love for his mother-in-law. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Connie Nelson of Elgin; four sons, Jim (Brenda) Nelson, John Nelson, and Arthur Nelson all of Elgin, and Dennis (Janet) Nelson of Eyota; two daughters, Rhonda (Frank) Copley of Cannon Falls, and Barb (Terry) Banitt of Elba; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Clark of Eyota; and one brother, Clyde Nelson of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Beverly Duncan.

Friends and family may visit from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9th, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday.
