Obituary

The funeral service for Derick Van Houten will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hammond, with Pastor Dale Kohrs officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Hammond at a later date.

Derick Wallace Van Houten, 47, of Rochester, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer at his home in Rochester. Derick was born August 25, 1970 in Rochester to Donald and Delores (Mickow) Van Houten. He graduated in 1991 from John Marshall High School in Rochester.

Derick worked at various places in the Rochester area and his last employment was with Cardinal of Minnesota. He was an avid Vikings fan, and loved to socialize with people and was a ladies man. Derick lived at the Cardinal Homes in Rochester for the past 15 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hammond.

Derick is survived by his parents Donald and Delores Van Houten of Elgin; three sisters, Darcee (Jason) Brinkman of Elgin, Deena (Gary) Sivyer of Farmington, and Dionna (Rodney) Moen of Plainview; a brother, Darrell Van Houten of Elgin; nieces, Keiley, Kenzie, and Bria Sivyer and Kaylen Moen; nephews, Jameson, Bo, and Daxton Brinkman, Connor Moen, and Maddux Sivyer. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and infant brother.

Family and friends may visit from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
