Donald Robert Downie, 87, of New Berlin WI, formerly of Lake City, MN, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2020 quietly and peacefully with his family surrounding him at his daughters' home, in New Berlin WI.

Don was born in 1932 in the foothills of Lignite ND., to his parents Robert and Catharine (Watt) Downie.  He married the love of his life, Mary Carpentier of Portal ND., on August 5, 1952.  They lived in various locations over their 66+ years of marriage.  Mary predeceased him in January of 2019.

Don retired after 30+ years with IBM in Minneapolis MN.  He enjoyed playing cards, Hawaii and anything with his family.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and he belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Lake City. He was active with his parish of St. Marys of the Lake in Lake City, MN as a Eucharistic Minister.  His Catholic faith was very important in his life.

He is survived by his children: Deacon Kevin (Linda) Downie of Pine Island MN with children Heidi, Michael and Brian; Terry (Kyle) Oanes of Ettrick WI, with children Ken and Keith; Gayle (Rex) Beresford of Curtis WA, with children Samuel, Stella, Josiah, Joanna and Jeremiah; Joni Bishop (son Jacob) of New Berlin WI; and D.J (Kristin) Downie of Backus MN with children Elizabeth, Luke, Anna, Isaiah and Jon.  In total 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren;  sisters Linda (Sam) Thomas of ND., and Lottie Holton of AZ. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

A graveside service for Donald will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. A Mass in Donald's name will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City at 6:00 p.m.
