The funeral service for Donald "Don" Kennedy will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4th, at Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln in rural Lake City, with Pastor Paul Otto officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in rural Zumbro Falls.
Mr. Kennedy, 92, of Millville and formerly of Rochester, died early Friday morning, August 29, 2014 at Golden Living Center East in Rochester.
Donald Charles Kennedy was born July 20, 1922 in Red Wing to Charles and Clara (Meyer) Kennedy. He attended school in the Zumbro Falls School District, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1941. Don married Lois Heins on June 3, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln in rural Lake City.
Don farmed in rural Zumbro Falls, and owned and operated "Deep In Debt" Trucking. He worked for Empire Gas, Rochester Silo; he then drove bus for Kennedy Bus Service, RSB Coach, and Sugar Loaf Bus Service owned by Mike and Barb Kennedy. Don lived most of his lifetime in the Zumbro Falls/Rochester areas moving to Millville in 2012.
Don enjoyed going hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a lifetime New York Yankee Fan, and played baseball and softball in his younger years, he enjoyed all sports. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln, and the Zumbro Falls Sportsmen Club. He was a former member of the Zumbro Falls School Board, and a former member of the Rochester Eagles Club.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Lois Kennedy of Millville; one daughter, Pat (David) Appel of Millville; one son, Mike (Barb) Kennedy of Zumbro Falls; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one great-grandson.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday.
