Eldon "Eldie" Edward Miller's Obituary
The memorial service for Eldon E. Miller will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6th, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Joseph P. Pete officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
Eldon "Eldie" Miller, 100, of Lake City, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Lake City Care Center in Lake City, MN where he had been a resident for just a few days.
Eldon Edward Miller was born March 6, 1913 in Chester Township, Wabasha County, MN to Charles C. and Annie (Betcher) Miller. He attended Chester Township Rural School, and lived his lifetime in the Lake City area. On July 4, 1941 he married Mary Meaney in Lake City; she died in October of 1973. Eldie married Marion Roper on November 15, 1974 in Lake City; she died December 10, 2010.
Eldie worked at Norman "Baldy" Dettlefson Oak Center Garage and farmed for several years. He then worked at McKenzie Implement in Lake City as Shop Foreman for 17 ½ years. In 1959 he purchased the Conoco Station in Lake City and operated that until he retired in 1974. Eldie was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City and a lifetime member of the Lake City Knights of Columbus. He was also a longtime member of the Lake City Country Club, Lake City Chamber of Commerce. Eldie was a Lake City Kiwanis Club member and received the lifetime membership award recently.
Eldie is survived by his step-daughter, Sandra (Robert) Walker and step-daughter-in-law, Celeste Roper both of Lake City; two step-granddaughters, Christine (Daniel) Quist of Richmond, CA and Rebecca (Bill) Weist of Lake City; two step-grandsons, Daniel (Tracey) Walker of Powell WY and David (Lorie) Roper of Minneapolis, MN; five step great-granddaughters, Lucy, Ella and Cora Weist, Rachel Walker, and Adelaide Quist; four step great-grandsons, John, Brian, and Colin Walker, and Oliver Quist; and many great, great-great, and great-great-great- nieces and nephews. Eldie was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; step-son, Jerry Roper; two brothers, Elmer and Milford; and one sister Florence.
Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday.
