The memorial service for Elmer Sprick will be held at noon on Saturday, March 9, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, Minn., with Pastors Tim Ehling and Duane Holst officiating.

Elmer William Sprick, 91, of Lake City, passed away at The Bluffs in Lake City on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.  He was born Aug. 22, 1927 on a farm ten miles south of Lake City to Claus and Maria (Augustine) Sprick.  He attended country school through the 8 ^th grade and graduated in 1945 from Lincoln High School in Lake City.  After graduation he entered the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre and the Occupation of Japan.  He was honorably discharged in August 1948, and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1952 with a forestry degree.  He was married to Mavis La Mont on Dec. 17, 1949 in Lake City.

Elmer worked for the state of Wisconsin as a forester in Wisconsin Rapids, Tomahawk, Shawano, Black River Falls, Madison and Eau Claire until his retirement in 1983.  He was an honorary lifetime member of the National Exchange Club.  He loved the outdoors and included most of the silent sports in his hobbies.  After moving to Lake City, he spent many hours fishing on Lake Pepin.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Elmer is survived by his loving wife, Mavis Sprick of Lake City; a daughter, Cynthia (Daniel) O'Donahoe, a son, David (Sarah) Sprick, and both of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Ashley Hensley, Chelsea (Kevin Glatt) Sprick, Katie (James) Paxton, Tanya (Levi) Cook and Monty (Elizabeth) Leiser; five great-grandchildren, Dean Cook, Maria Cook, Perrin Cook, Everett Hensley and Adair Glatt; two sisters, Florence Bye of Maplewood and Kate Kirkwood of Lake City, and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents: three brothers, Clarence, Edward, and Le Roy, and six sisters, Adelaide, Annetta, Emma, Marion, Alverna and Anna.

Friends and family may visit from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday, March 9, at the church.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, the Lake City Environmental Learning Center, or to charities of the donor's choice.
