The funeral service for Esther J. Tidball will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Plainview/Elgin, with Pastor Richard C. Hegal officiating.

Mrs. Tidball, 93, of Plainview, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2015, at her home in Plainview with her family by her side.

Esther Jean Hall was born August 1, 1921 near Imogene, South Dakota to Eugene and Myrtle (Morrell) Hall. Esther attended schools in SD and WI, graduating at age 16 from Bangor High School in Bangor, WI. She attended teacher's college at the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse. During WWII, she worked as an anti-aircraft shell inspector at Northern Engraving in LaCrosse and then worked at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, supervising inspections of detonator fuses for 200 to 2000 pound bombs.

Esther married James (Jim) Tidball on June 19, 1945 in Bangor, Wisconsin. They lived in Tulsa, OK; Evansville, IN; Bottineau ND; Lemmon, SD; Isabel, SD, and finally in Plainview, MN. Esther was a classroom teacher for 33 years in WI, SD and MN. Most of her teaching career was in Rochester, MN.

Esther and Jim were charter members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview/Elgin. She was also a member of Southeastern Minnesota Retired Teachers Association, Rochester Area Retired Teachers, and the National Reading Association.

After retirement Esther volunteered on the Advisory Board for Women's Health Day at the Mayo Clinic, as a Peer Counselor with Eldernet, delivered Meals on Wheels, and took patients to the Mayo Clinic for Faith in Action.

Esther enjoyed reading, needlework, quilting, and playing cards. She and Jim traveled the world visiting nearly all the U.S. states, Germany, France, England, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Australia, the Bahamas, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and Canada.

She leaves to mourn three sons, John (Jackie) Tidball of Huntsville, AL, Allyn Tidball of Plainview, James (Joan) Tidball of Wichita, KS, a daughter, Alyce Tidball; eight grandchildren, Ben (Jennifer) Tidball, Adam Tidball, Alicia Esther (Derrickus) Tidball-Spratlin, Anna Sophia (Rommel) Tidball-Molina, Kyle (Jennifer) Tidball, Melanie Tidball, John Tidball, and Natassja Tidball; and one great-grandson, Mazin James Tidball. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Margaret Lyon Reno of Lemmon, SD, Nora (James) Anderson of Lemmon, SD, and Patsy Monnens of Gillette, WY.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, one sister Alyce, and her infant daughter, Mary Margaret.

Friends and family may visit from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Sunday.
