A Celebration of Life Gathering for Ethel Dewey will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m. lead by Pastor Mark Woodward.

Mrs. Dewey, 95, of Eyota, passed away on March 24, 2015 at the home of her daughter, Bonny in rural Eyota.

Ethel Maxine Zimmer was born January 18, 1920 in Nemaha, Sac County, Iowa to Nickclaus and Olive (Robson) Zimmer. Ethel married Dwight Bartlett Dewey on May 29, 1938 in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Ethel worked as a bookkeeper at many different business over her working years while helping raise their three children, Bonny, Phyllis, and John. The Dewey's owned and operated the Viola Grocery and General Store in Viola from 1980 to 2011.

Ethel was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota. She also enjoyed being a member of the Eyota American Legion Auxiliary Post 551, and the Olmsted Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.

Ethel is survived by her children, Bonny Albers of Eyota, and John (Deborah) Dewey of Houston; 8 grandchildren, Bartlet (Mary) Albers, Duane Albers, Dean (Cindy) Albers, William (Laurie) Albers, Troy (Mary) Hoffman, Lance Hoffman, Toya Hoffman, and Dawn (Toby) Allen Cantler; 19 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Reola) Zimmer of Forest Hill, CA; a sister, Phyllis Stevens of San Angelo, TX; a sister-in-law, Nera Zimmer of Early, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nickclaus and Olive Zimmer, husband, Dwight Dewey, daughter, Phyllis Dewey, son-in-law, Duane Albers, grandson, Laurence Hoffman, brothers, Ross, Glenn, Leland, and Milton, and sisters, Florence, Louise, and Lucille.

Ethel's family would like to offer special thanks to Seasons Hospice for their caring help during our final time with our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Ethel chose to donate her body to Mayo Clinic.
