Eugene Chester Jarrett's Obituary
The memorial service for Eugene C. Jarrett will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, at the United Methodist Church in Lake City with Pastor Phil Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbro Falls Cemetery in Zumbro Falls. With Military Rites by the Zumbro Falls VFW Post 1802.
Mr. Jarrett, 86, of Lake City, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Health Care in Wabasha.
Eugene Chester Jarrett was born March 28, 1931 in Aberdeen, SD to Chester and Bernice (Kahla) Jarrett. He lived in and attended school at Stratford, SD. Gene served his country in the US Navy from November 17, 1950 to August 23, 1954 during the Korean Conflict. On May 23, 1958 he married Fay Krusmark at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.
Gene was employed as a service manager for Ace Trucking & Equipment from 1968 to 1978; and later was self-employed in the heating business owning Gene's Furnace Repair and Heating in Zumbro Falls. Gene served as Mayor of Zumbro Falls in 1976, and was the Chairman of the Bicentennial for Zumbro Falls in 1976. He served as the Justice of the Peace of Zumbro Falls from 1965 to 1967. The Jarrett's moved to Lake City in 1988, and enjoyed many winters in South.
Gene was a lifetime member and past commander of the Zumbro Falls VFW Post 1802, and a member of the American Legion Post 110 of Lake City. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake City, and a former member of the Zumbro Falls United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fay Jarrett of Lake City; daughters, Darla Reed of Seattle, WA, and Linda (Jim) Schroeder of Rochester; son, Gary (Vanessa) Jarrett of Rochester; 6 grandchildren. 4 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (Loretta) Jarrett of North Carolina, and Robert (Judy Bunke) Jarrett of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Jim Reed, and son, Terry Jarrett.
Friends and family may visit 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
