Obituary

Gary Harold Schumacher, 66, of Plainview passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at his home in rural Plainview surrounded by his loving family after a courageous two year battle with glioblastoma multiform. He was born October 12, 1952 in Wabasha to Harold L. and Audrey (Prescher) Schumacher.  He attended Plainview Community Schools graduating in 1970.  Gary married the love of his life Barbara Goetz on March 30, 1973 at the United Methodist Church in Plainview.

Gary took over the family farm from his mother in 1973. He was a dairy farmer for over 45 years with his wife by his side. Farming was a passion and not a job. He loved his animals and took pride in caring for them. Family meant more than anything to him. He enjoyed watching his children grow up and become wonderful adults teaching them hard work, honesty, and loved them unconditionally. He was blessed to be a grandfather of nine grandchildren and had a loving and special relationship with each of them. Gary had an amazing impact on each of them,  sharing his wisdom, generous heart, and his loving smirk. He enjoyed deer hunting, Twins games, bowling, playing cards, and coaching and playing softball. Following his grandchildren in all of their activities brought himgreat pride and joy. He will be deeply and forever missed.  His family will take comfort in knowing that he is now free of pain and will live forever in all their hearts.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Barb Schumacher of Plainview, children, Chastity (Mike Rahman) Schumacher of Theilman, Trisha (Patrick) Adamson of Rochester, and Chad (Amy) Schumacher of Millville; nine grandchildren, Alan (Fiancé Abby Reysen), Eric, Luke, Nicholas, Oliver, Caroline, Jordyn, Ashlyn, and Jace; mother, Audrey Bornholdt of Eyota; father, Harold L. (Judy) Schumacher of Plainview; sisters, Debbie (Jon) Ploof of Lebanon, TN, Gayle (Milo) Holderbecker of Bemidji, Vicky Elgen of Plainview, and Rhonda (Jeff) Miller of Eyota; brother, Dale (Erin) Schumacher of Eyota; and a half-brother, David Schumacher of Plainview.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Evelyn Schumacher, Carl and Neva Prescher, step-father, Rodney Bornholdt, step-brother, Robbie Houghton, and niece Tashina Ploof.
