The funeral service for Gerald "Jerry" Rahman will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
Gerald Louis Rahman passed away Friday morning, August 17, 2018 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. He was born July 21, 1938 in Wabasha to Louis T. and Eleanor (Hoffman) Rahman. Jerry attended country school in Oakwood Township, Plainview High School, and graduated from St. Felix Catholic School in 1956. Following his graduation he entered the Army Reserves on June 2, 1956.
Jerry married Margaret Krier on July 9, 1960 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester; she passed away on September 23, 2001. He married Mary Ellen Merchlewitz on April 18, 2009 at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview.
Jerry worked for a brief time for Emil Funke Road Construction, and was then employed at IBM in Rochester as an Engineer from 1962 – 1992. Jerry took post graduate classes at RCTC during his employment with IBM. They lived in Rochester until 1982 when they moved to Lake Zumbro.
Jerry loved to cruise his pontoon on Lake Zumbro, snowmobile and ATV, go fishing and hunting, play solitaire and 500. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching the Twins, Vikings, Lynx, and NASCAR races. Jerry loved country music and watching RFD television. He was a member of the Plainview American Legion Post #179; the Minnesota United Snowmobile Association, and active on many committees involving trails and legislation, Four Seasons Recreation Association, Zumbro Valley Snowmobile Club, and the Wabasha Drift Skippers. Jerry was a member of the Great River Bike Trail Group connecting Plainview, Elgin, and Viola, and the Lake Zumbro Improvement Association.
Jerry is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, son Dave (Mary Kay), daughter-in-law, Mary Lou, sons-in-law, Tim Maher, and Jerry Waller; 7 step-children; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 20 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Allen (Janet) Rahman, and James (Ruth) Rahman; sisters, Arlene (Jerry) Jax and Bonnie (John) Meyer; sisters-in-law, Rosie, Shirley, Gloria (Louis), Audrey, Vivian, Diane, Carol, and Carlotta; brothers-in-law, David, Lavern, and Alan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, daughters, Cheryl and Susan, son, Steve.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lake Zumbro Improvement Association.
