Obituary

Harold J. Brunholzl, 82, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center.

Harold Joseph Brunholzl was born April 29, 1936, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, to Anton "Tony" and Brunhilde "Hilda" Brunholzl.  He spent his early childhood years living at Mayowood where his father was a carpenter for Dr. Charles Mayo.  Harold was drafted and served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960, where he had the opportunity to travel and develop a deep appreciation for mountains and beautiful landscapes.  On June 2, 1962, in Bellechester, he married Phoebe Ann Ring, and they later divorced.

Harold enjoyed farming for most of his life.  He also worked off the farm many years for Federal Mogul in Lake City.  His passion for nature was a common theme throughout his life, and he enjoyed fishing up north.  He loved working the farmland and taking care of all of the animals where he would often name and greet them as friends.  Harold was a kind and gentle soul who taught those around him to be tolerant and how to give generously in many ways.

Harold is survived by seven children, Loretta (David) Ellis of Minneapolis, Jack (Elena) Kann of Oronoco, Patricia (John) Roth of Elgin, Mary (Jeffrey) Dobbins of Rochester, Mark (Carla) Brunholzl of Lake City, Catherine (Scott) Benson of Burnsville, and Christopher (Charlotte) Brunholzl of Rochester; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-children, and one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Ernest "Ernie" Brunholzl of Albuquerque, NM.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Anton "Tony".

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel.
