Harold "Hap" W. Beck, 93, of Plainview and formerly of Elgin, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. He was born August 14, 1930, in Rochester to Edwin and Leona (Beiersdorf) Beck. Harold attended school in Elgin, graduating from Elgin High School in 1948, and then attended Mankato Commercial College in Mankato. On December 1, 1951, he married the love of his life Delores "Dot" Schroeder at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. Harold proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.
Harold lived his lifetime in the Elgin area, where he owned and operated Beck Implement, which was founded by his grandfather in 1926. Harold was active in his community serving in the Elgin Fire Department, on the Olmsted Medical – Elgin Clinic Board, and the Elgin State Bank Board. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin America Legion Post #573, and the Elgin Lions Club for many years. Harold moved to Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in 2020.
Harold is survived by his children, Cindy (Robert) Giese of Lewistown, MT, Craig (Lisa) Beck of Elgin, Ed Beck of Vancouver, WA, and B.J. Beck of Elgin; three grandchildren, Dillon Beck, Ryan Giese, and Erin Giese – Breen, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one daughter, Denise.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin with Pastor Josh Moldenhauer officiating. The burial will follow the service in Elgin Cemetery with Military Rites by the Elgin American Legion Post #573. Friends and family may visit on Monday, January 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
