Obituary

Helen Collopy, 95, of Rochester and formerly of Lake City and Old Frontenac, passed away on Thursday morning, March 25, 2021, at the Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.

A memorial service for Helen will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 869 7 th Avenue SE in Rochester with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating. There will be a half-hour visitation before the 11:00 a.m. service at the church. Due to covid, there will not be a reception. Masks and social distancing are required. There will be a private burial following in Frontenac Cemetery.

Helen Grannis (Schmidt) Collopy was born August 23, 1925, in Crookston, Minnesota to Paul and Vesta (Grannis) Schmidt. They later moved to Rochester. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1942. She met Lloyd Collopy at Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) and they married on November 28, 1947, in Rochester.

She was a woman of many talents. She had been a Candy-Striper, Bank teller, Telephone operator, and later worked at Hunts Drug. She loved quilting, gardening, sewing, and cooking. Her favorite job was being a wife, mother, and friend to many.

Helen is survived by two sons, Paul (Sandy) Collopy of Rochester, and Gary (Michelle) Collopy of Inver Grove Heights; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Dez), Jason (Brandy), Justin (Ellen), Erin Ivey (Dustin), and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Tesla, and Lexi. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arthur Schmidt, and her husband (of 69 years) Lloyd Collopy.

In lieu of flowers, any memorials will be distributed to Helen's interests.
