The funeral service for Helen T. Diderrich will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church – West Albany in rural Millville, with Father Joseph P. Pete officiating. Burial will be in St. Clements Catholic Cemetery in Hammond.

Mrs. Diderrich, 85, of Viola, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Mary Campus.

Helen Therese Laqua was born August 27, 1928 in Hyde Park Township, Wabasha County, to Herman and Clara (Sexton) Laqua. She attended elementary school at District #24 Wabasha County, and graduated from McCahill Institute in Lake City.

Helen worked as a nurse's aide for two years at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, until she married Irvin Diderrich on September 18, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church – West Albany. They had five children, Ed, Irv, Tommy, Sue and Tim. After the children were older she went back to work at St. Mary's Hospital as a surgical technician and worked for 25 years until she retired.

Helen loved gardening, and enjoyed planting beautiful flowers, taking photographs, baking especially for the holidays, and taking walks on the family farm hunting for mushrooms. Helen took great joy in planning holiday celebrations and family gatherings.

Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Irvin Diderrich of Viola; three sons, Tim Diderrich of Zumbro Falls, Ed (Donna) Diderrich of Kasson, and Irvin J. (Joanie) Diderrich of Sheridan, WY; one daughter, Susan (Mike) Keith of Rochester; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Majerus of Lake City, and Ann Laqua of Millville. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, one son, Tommy, and one great-grandson, Edward.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27th, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
