Howard Olson of Plainview, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the age of 94 years, 6months, and 12 days, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Hilltop Oakwood Cemetery in rural Millville.
Howard John Olson was born on January 21, 1922 in Millville to Bert and Vida (Nelson) Olson. He grew up on the farm and attended Rural Wabasha County School, and graduated from Plainview High School in 1941. On June 4, 1948 he married Mary Mae Roberson at the United Methodist Church in Lake City.
Howard was a lifelong resident of Oakwood Township, Wabasha County, where he lived on and farmed the same land his entire life. He enjoyed checking on the Spring Calves, and trained horses. He loved the new life every spring and riding his horses to tend the livestock. Howard was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and former member of the Oakwood Methodist Church in rural Millville.
Howard is survived by his children, Gail Olson of Millville; Connie (Jim) Smith, and John (Jodene) Olson both of Plainview; 5 grandchildren, Brianne (Jason) Seitz, Rebecca (Jared) Sell, Jacob (Courtney Gasper) Olson, Jesse (Chantel Schuchard) Olson, and Kathryn (Jason Heinen) Stedman; 2 great-grandchildren, Lucas and Kaylee Seitz; and a sister, Marian (Gordon) Spradlin of Sandpoint, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Mae on May 19, 2012, and 6 brothers, Albert, Robert, Donald, Everette, Frank and Wayne; 2 sisters, Maxine and Marilyn and 1 son-in-law, Mark Stedman.
