Ione Spring Jacobs, age 90, of Plainview died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Methodist Campus. Ione was born on April 13, 1933, to George and Hilda (Adler) Spring, baptized as Ione Donna Mae Spring. She attended Elgin School and graduated in 1951. Ione married Kenneth Otto Jacobs on July 20, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, they were blessed with their first and only child Edwin born in 1960.
Ione lived her life to the fullest, a wonderful wife, mom, mom-in-law, grandmother, great-grandma, and aunt. Ione especially enjoyed cooking meals for her family and watching sporting events of all the grandkids. Ione gave much pride in helping the Plainview American Legion Post #179 with activities and especially her homemade famous Tom & Jerrys. She served as the Auxiliary President from 1977-1978.
Ione's favorite part of life was time spent with her family countless meals together, she treasured her family. She also enjoyed her bowling league from 1951 – 1980. Ione enjoyed God, life, family, and her many jobs. Especially Interstate Power Company from 1951 – 1960, Plainview City Clerk from 1970 – 1998. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.
Ione is survived by her son, Ed (Therese) Jacobs of Plainview; three grandchildren, Kenneth, Samantha, and Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Weston, Bane, Payson, and Otto; a sister Jeanette Quam of Rochester, and a sister-in-law, Susan Spring of Elgin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Lucille, and an infant sister, four brothers, Norton, Herb, Maynard, and LaVerne.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. The burial will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. A visitation will be on Sunday, February 4, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
