The funeral service for James A. Danckwart, Sr. will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lake City, MN.

Mr. Danckwart, 92, of Lake City, MN died Monday evening, June 24, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center in Lake City, MN.

James Amenrud Danckwart was born August 6, 1920 in West Albany Township, Wabasha County, MN to Frank and Hilda (Benson) Danckwart. He attended Wabasha County District #22, West Albany – Whelan School through the 6th grade and then attended St. John's Lutheran School for 7th and 8th grade. James farmed with his father for several years before moving to Lake City. On January 29, 1947 he married Cecelia Sanders in West Albany rural Millville, MN. He lived his entire lifetime in the Lake City area.

James was employed by Gillette and Eaton, Tenant & Hoyt Flour Mill, The Jewell Nursery all in Lake City and Prairie Island Nuclear Plant, retiring in the mid 1980's. He enjoyed spending his time gardening, wood-working, fishing, playing cards and bingo. James really enjoyed building wagons for his great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

James is survived by his loving wife, Cecelia Danckwart of Lake City; three daughters, Phyllis (Dennis) Walker of Lake City, Mary (Allan) Monty of Grand Meadow, and Jean Benson of Lake City; two sons, David Danckwart and James "Jim" (Dawn) Danckwart, Jr. both of Lake City; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Margaret Peterson of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27th, at Schleicher Funeral Home, Lake City Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
