James Russell Haug, 79, of Plainview, passed away at St. Elizabeth Care Center in Wabasha on Wednesday morning, April 13, 2022. He was born on May 24, 1942, and spent his childhood in Beloit, Wisconsin with his parents Henry and Maedelle (Porter) Haug. His family moved to Plainview in 1957. He attended and graduated from Plainview High School in 1960. He was drafted into the Army in 1964 and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1965-1966.  He joined the Air Force Reserves when he returned to the states and earned the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharge from both the Army and the Air Force. On July 17, 1971, he married Kathleen "Kathy" Lenway in Kenyon.

James and Kathy lived in Plainview where they raised their two children, Erica and Jim. He held a variety of different jobs over his lifetime but was most proud of being an Amsoil dealer for over 50 years. He was a lover of airplanes, attending airshows, trains, his cats, grand dogs, good food and chats in his garage with his many friends. He was an avid reader and had an immense amount of knowledge on many subjects.  He could play a mean game of Trivial Pursuit. His family was his pride and joy.  He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.

James is survived by his son, Jim Haug of Roseau, and his daughter, Erica (Pablo) Haug-Gonzalez of Plainview; his grandchildren, Savannah (Jake) Conwell, Isaiah, Samantha (Justin) Vandevoort, and Shelby; and one great-granddaughter, Mariah. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Kathy on October 17, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview with Pastor John Curtiss officiating. Burial will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites by the Plainview American Legion Post #179. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
