The funeral service for Janet "Jan' Riley will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, at Church of the Annunciation, 4996 Hazelwood Avenue in rural Northfield, with Father Denny Dempsey officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at St. Clements Catholic Cemetery in Hammond with Father Joseph Pete officiating.

Mrs. Riley, 71, of Lakeville, passed away at her home Friday morning, August 5, 2016.

Janet Delores Fitz was born on March 15, 1945 in Sisseton, SD to Herman and Anita (Stewart) Fitz. She attended the South Dakota School for the Blind in Gary, SD until 1952 and then attended the South Dakota School for the Blind in Aberdeen, SD. Jan went on to attend the School of Business in Rapid City, SD. On December 29, 1965 she married Patrick Riley at St. Clements Catholic Church in Hammond.

Jan worked as a telephone switchboard operator, and has lived in Rapid City, SD, Homestead, FL, and St. Paul, Rosemount, and Lakeville in Minnesota.

Jan (mom/grandma/Nana) loved us all. We will miss her typed letters, her amazing memory, and her constant dusting with Pledge. We will also miss her magnet and memento collections, and the puzzles she carefully pieced together and framed. With such an easy smile, big heart, and sparkle in her eyes, the heavens just gained the shiniest star you'll ever see. We toast you with your favorite rootbeer float!

Jan is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Riley of Lakeville; daughter, Robin (Patrick Mause) Riley of Tucson, AZ; son Tom (Tammy) Riley of Lakeville; 7 grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Krystal, Katy, Amber, Nolan, and Vonn; one great-grandchild, DJ; and 5 brothers, Jim Fitz of Cresco, PA, Jack (Carole) Fitz of Inver Grove Heights, Al (Sally) Fitz of Farmington, Mike Fitz of Britton, SD, and Pat (Lori) Fitz of Sisseton, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, 2 brothers, and 1 infant sibling.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at the Church until the time of service.
