A memorial service for Janice "Jan" Hjelle will at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16th, at Lake Winona Manor Chapel, in Winona. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Mrs. Hjelle, 79, of Winona and formerly of Rochester, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Lake Winona Manor in Winona.
Janice Marie Schultz was born January 7, 1935 in Rochester to Albert and Mary (Kern) Schultz. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. On April 2, 1955 she married Robert Hjelle at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester.
Jan moved to California for 17 months while Robert was in the military, and then moved back to Rochester in 1956, where she went to work at the Mayo Clinic. In 1962 she started at IBM and worked for them until her retirement in 1992. Jan had worked for IBM in Rochester and various towns in California throughout her career. She was a member of the Eagles Club and the Elk's in Rochester, and while living in Arizona was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Jan was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, and her favorite player was Harmon Kilebrew.
Jan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Hjelle of Winona, and one sister, Rosemary Schoeppner of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Betty Hester.
