Jean Irene
Bodurtha
Oct 12, 1925 — Oct 26, 2023
Jean Irene Bodurtha, 98, of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Green Prairie in Plainview. She was born October 12, 1925, in Faribault, to James and Irene (Swan) Krema. Jean grew up in Faribault and graduated from Faribault High School in 1943. She worked for several years at KDHL, the local radio station, and played trumpet in a local big band.
In March 1951, she married her sweetheart Ed Bodurtha, and they moved to Vermont where Ed taught High School Latin. In 1959 (after the birth of four boys), the family moved to Plainview where Ed began his long teaching career at Plainview Public Schools. In early 1960, the family was complete when Jean gave birth to Judy, and finally "got her girl." Jean was a homemaker busy raising their five children and very active in the PTA and other school activities. She was a member of the Plainview American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer with Hillcrest Family Group, and a regular participant at the Plainview Community Center. Some of Jean's passions and pastimes included gardening and canning, fishing, playing cards, and doing puzzles—crossword and jigsaw. She never passed up an opportunity to play Bingo. She loved animals, especially dogs. Jean was known to keep biscuits in her pocket just in case she came across a beloved furry friend. She will forever be known for her great sense of humor.
Jean is survived by her children, Jim (Lois) of Eagan, Steve (Susie) of New Brighton, Dave (Kathy) of Apple Valley, Mark (Julie) of Rosemount, and Judy (Chuck) Dougherty of Stillwater; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview, with Pastor Amy Kosari officiating. The burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred.
