Jean Marie Schwirtz, 59, of Hammond, died early Monday morning, April 10, 2017 at her home. Jean was born February 21, 1958 in Rochester to Rueben and Doris (Williamson) Gary. She attended school in Hammond, and John Marshall High School in Rochester.

On April 3, 1976 she married her childhood sweetheart, Raymond Schwirtz in Hammond. Jean spent her lifetime in the Hammond area. She devoted her life to her family as a stay at home mother to her two children for many years. Jean briefly worked at Kmart, Pemstar, and HCC. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially with her grandchildren whom she adored. Jean also enjoyed going fishing, and dancing like no one was watching. She will be remembered for her kind heart and big smile.

Jean is survived by her mother, Doris Gary of Hammond; her children, Crystal (Bob) Galbraith of Pinellas Park, FL, and Brandon (Christina Sommerville) Schwirtz of Rochester; 2 granddaughters, Madelyn and Savannah Schwirtz, and 2 grandsons, Colton Galbraith and Blake Sommerville; 3 sisters, Ginny (Greg Klees) Stevens, Rosie (Dwight Hodges) Siefert, and Bonnie (Dan Klann) Gary; and a brother, Elmer (Cindy) Gary. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Schwirtz, and father Reuben Gary.
