John Kackmann, age 79, of Lake City, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Lake City Nursing Home, in Lake City, Minnesota. John Lawrence Kackmann was born on October 23, 1943, to Lewis and Lenora (Stehr) Kackmann in Lake City, Minnesota. He was baptized at the Lutheran church in Chester and confirmed at St John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN. John attended country school, elementary school in Lake City, St John's parochial, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961.
After graduation, John farmed with his dad until 1963, when he joined the U.S. Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged in November of 1969. John returned home to farm with his dad and three brothers. John continued to farm until 2019 when his health no longer allowed him to do what he truly enjoyed. On July 23, 1994, John married Beverly Moechnig. John and Beverly made their home in rural Lake City, where they enjoyed 28 wonderful years together. John loved spending time with family and enjoyed taking the grandkids to the farm to see the animals and tractors.
John was a life-long member of the Lake City Sportsman's Club, St. John's Lutheran Church, where he ushered for many years, and was a member of the American Legion.
John will be greatly missed by his wife, Beverly; and her children, Doug (Amy) Moechnig; Jolene (Todd) Johnson; Cheryl (Rich) Mackinac and Lynette (Chris) Matzke; grandchildren, Justin Moechnig, Kayla (Jeran) Ferguson, Meghan (Cooper Anderson), TJ and Lauren Reeves, Sam and Ryan Moechnig, Brooke (Ryan) Dare, Logan Johnson, Dylan (Kelly) Johnson, Rachel (Caden) Laleman, Maddie (Brent Dorn), Allie and Joey Mackinac, and Olivia, Carson and Ella Matzke; great-grandchildren, Ben and Nolan Dare, Eva and Ezra Ferguson; brothers, Robert (Marlene) Kackmann, Ralph, Lee and Donald Kackmann, sister, Kathleen (Kenny) Johnson, and nephews, niece and cousins. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lewis and Lenora; his in-laws, Julius and Elvira Lichtblau and grandson, Nicholas Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Nathan Cordes officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City, with Military Rites by the Lake City American Legion Post #110 and Lake City VFW Post #8729.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10 th at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
