Obituary

The funeral service for Joyce Heyn will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, with Pastor Terrill Bramstedt officiating.  Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery.

Joyce Heyn, 83, of Elgin, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.  She was born March 13, 1935 in Eyota Township, Olmsted County, to Alfred and Thelma (Smith) Schellhammer.  She attended rural Olmsted County Schools, and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1953.  On October 2, 1954 she married Donald Heyn at Church of Peace in Rochester.

Joyce lived most of her married life in Viola Township, moving to Elgin in 1994.  She was employed at the Guest House in Rochester from 1969 to 1996 when she retired.  Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, and served as the custodian from 1996 – 2012.  Joyce enjoyed baking and spending time bird watching, attending Viola Gopher Count, and going fishing.

Joyce is survived by her husband Donald Heyn of Elgin, a daughter, Barbara Ann Heyn of Elgin, and two sons, Gary (Peg) Heyn of Golden Valley, and Glenn (Dorothy) Heyn of Elgin; four grandchildren Bobbi Jo, Jamie, Danny, and Stefan; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Colin, and Lane and one great-great-grandchild, Kiya; sisters, Eileen Dessner of Byron, Lois Ann Bishop of St. Charles, and Ruth Schellhammer of Rochester; and a brother, Gerald (Judy) Schellhammer of Rochester.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Donald.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
