Judith "Judy" Ponto, 77, of Plainview, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. She was born March 20, 1942 in Rochester, to Bill and Delores (Miller) Dalton. She lived in Chatfield during her elementary school days, and then attended school in Rochester, and graduated in 1960 from John Marshall High School. Judy went on to attend Methodist – Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester graduating in 1963. In October 1963 she married Earl "Bud" Ponto at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Ponto's lived in Rochester until 1972 when they moved to the Eyota farm.
Judy began her nursing career at Rochester Methodist Hospital in 1963. She took a few years off for raising their family, and in 1980 she returned to work at Methodist Hospital as a surgical nurse retiring in 2001. In her free time Judy enjoyed going swimming, fishing, dominoes, cooking and canning for her family from the family garden produce. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and loved playing with her grandkids.
Judy is survived by her children, Mark (Tina) Ponto, Tony (Brenda) Ponto, Jill (Darrin) Hinrichs, and Jenna (Jerry) Lundin; six grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Don) Spilman, and a brother, Don Dalton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, her parents, and brother, Jerry.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, November 23 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Terrill Bramstedt officiating at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery will be at a later time.
