Kelly Catlin was the first-born of triplets. She grew up and went to school in Arden Hills, Minnesota, graduating from Mounds View High School, attending the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate where she majored in Chinese and math, and then Stanford University as a graduate student in computational mathematics.

Kelly began racing in 10 ^th grade and rapidly fell in love with the speed and sensation of flying.  She competed in road racing, mountain biking and cyclocross, with medals galore.  She also won the attention of scouts looking for potential talent for the Olympic track cycling team.  In 2015, she took a leave of absence from the U of M to attend a track training camp at the Olympic Training Center and made the Olympic team. She had never ridden on a track before. The rest is history—an Olympic silver medal in track team pursuit in 2016.  In 2018, Kelly set the world's third fastest individual pursuit record. She continued her road career, as well with Rally Cycling, finding a second cycling family.

But Kelly was much more than a cyclist.  She showed interesting artistic ability as a child.  She was also a talented violinist who became first chair and then concertmistress in the high school orchestra. She continued her musical education at the U of M. That musical ear helped her succeed in Chinese. The same ear liked heavy metal music. Her favorite movies were sci-fi flicks and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".  She passionately loved horses, but found dinosaurs and birds fascinating.  Her favorite foods were chocolate, apples and tea. She and her brother frequently gave tea-board game-badminton parties at our house.

Her personality made her always give 110%. She was a burst of energy.  She was a shooting star, burning brightly and then gone.  We miss you terribly, Kelly.

Kelly is survived by her parents, Mark Catlin and Carolyn Emory, and her triplet siblings, Christine and Colin.
