LaVonne Ella Gaskill, 97, of Plainview, Minnesota passed away Friday morning November 21, 2025, at Elysian Senior Homes in Lake City, Minnesota, with her family by her side. She was born July 18, 1928, in Farmington Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota to Arthur and Effie (Hunter) DeWitz.

LaVonne grew up attending school in Rochester and in 1946 from Rochester High School. Following graduation, she went to work for Mayo Clinic and worked with Dr. Charles Mayo. She retired after 42 years at Mayo working in many different departments in the clinic.

LaVonne married Rollyn Gaskill, Jr. on November 10, 1951, in Rochester. They lived in the Rochester and Plainview area where Rollyn was a building contractor, and together they built and lived in six new homes over the years. Rollyn passed away on April 11, 2006.

LaVonne enjoyed spending many hours working in her gardens and canning the produce from them. Their home would smell of fresh baked goodies that she baked especially for her family and sharing with her friends. She would also spend many hours carving wood, especially duck decoys, painting them and other wood carvings, she also liked to sew.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Steve "Gas" Gaskill of Plainview; and a sister, Arva Jean Sackett of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Archie, Arthur Jr., Robert and Harold DeWitz, sister, LeEtta Lorimor, and twin infant siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel with Pastor Jeff Sackett officiating. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
