LaVonne Shirley Hermann, 88, of Rochester went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. She bravely and quietly fought chronic lymphocytic leukemia for over twenty years.

On March 22, 1930, she was born to Everett and Lucy Subra in Austin, Minnesota.  LaVonne attended school at the Little Red Schoolhouse near Zumbro Falls, and graduated from Rochester High School in 1948.

On July 10, 1948, she married the love of her life George Hermann at the South Troy Church, rural Zumbro Falls, where they raised five children. Since child care and hard work was learned early in her life, she and George honorably cared for their children and saw to it that each learned to play a musical instrument and sing. She was rich in hospitality and taught her family respect for authority, hard work, manners, and faith in the Lord.

LaVonne served on the school board for the Little Red School and was active at South Troy Church. She worked as a nurse aide in Colonial Hospital, Maple Manor, Charter House, and Madonna Towers in Rochester, and Hillcrest in Plainview. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, sewing and singing with George in the Young at Heart senior choir. LaVonne and George assisted in hosting the 4 ^th of July celebration annually near Mazeppa. They were awarded Honorary Life Membership by the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation in 2013.

After years of farming, she and George retired to Rochester in 1992, most recently residing at Samaritan Bethany Arbor Terrace. There they celebrated their 70 ^th wedding anniversary on July 10, 2018.

LaVonne is survived by her husband, George Hermann, sons Don (Judy) and Dave (Theresa), daughters Ranetta Lang, Retha (Mark) Engle, and Rhonda (Mark) Krolak; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Loren, sisters Doris Callahan, Lila Parker, and Lorraine Monahan. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Lucy Subra, brothers Roger and Glen, and sisters Violet Bicknese and Irene Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at Oak Hills Wesleyan Church, 410 28 ^th Street SW, Rochester, on Wednesday, August 22, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 21, from 5-8 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW in Rochester, as well as one hour before the service at the church. Her body, in accordance with her wishes, will be donated to the May Clinic research.

LaVonne and her family thank Dr. Deb Bowen, Dr. Nathan Jacobsen, the medical staff of Mayo Health and Hospice System, plus the caring staff at Samaritan Bethany Arbor Terrace during her years fighting leukemia. Without them, her family would not have had the joy of her presence.
