The memorial service for Lorraine A. Peterson will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin with Pastor Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Tuesday, October 3, at 10:05 a.m.

Mrs. Peterson, 79, of Plainview and formerly of Elgin, passed away Friday morning, September 22, 2017 at Parkside Elder Care in Plainview.

Lorraine Ann Pieper was born December 21, 1937 Stoneham Township in Chippewa County, MN to Herbert and Lena (Meyer) Pieper. She attended rural country school District 71, and graduated from Clara City High School in 1955. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City in 1951. Lorraine went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus College for Pre-Nursing, and graduated from Bethesda Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. On July 2, 1961 she married Milo Peterson in Clara City, and they moved to Elgin in 1963. Lorraine continued her education at the College of St. Francis in Joliet, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Arts in 1987. She also obtained her degree in Long Term Care Administration from the University of Minnesota.

During Lorraine's nursing career she worked as a Nursing Supervisor in Medical, Surgical, and Psychiatric Medical, Surgical, Psychiatric Staff Nurse, Operating Room Nurse, and Developmentally Challenged with Dual Diagnoses. From April 1967 to May 1968 she was a Staff Nurse and Private Duty Nurse for the Rochester Methodist Hospital, from August 1971 to November 1976 and she was the Director of Nursing Service in the National Health Enterprises both in Rochester. From March 1977 to November 1979 Lorraine was the Director of Nursing Service at Hillcrest Nursing and Retirement Home in Plainview. Lorraine then was employed as Director of Nursing Service from December 1979 to 1981 and as Administrator from 1981 to April of 1986 at the Samaritan Bethany Home in Rochester. In June of 1986 Lorraine served as Director of Nursing Service at Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles until March of 1987. In March of 1987 Lorraine worked for the Licensing & Certification Section O.H.F.C. for the State of Minnesota Southeastern District in Rochester. Lorraine surveyed Nursing Homes throughout the State after working for the State of MN and then taught at RCTC, teaching CNA's. She enjoyed all of her jobs in her working career and the fulfillment it brought to her.

Singing was a big part of Lorraine's life starting at the age of 3, she sang for weddings, was in the Trinity Lutheran Choir, and sang with the Rochester Symphonic Choir. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Lorraine served as a Girl and Boy Scout leader while her children were involved in these organizations. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining for friends and family. She also loved to spend time working in her flower gardens. Lorraine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Jeffrey Peterson of St. Paul, Gretchen (Patrick Nutter) Peterson of Eagan, and Andrea (Michael) Thein of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Anthony, Addison, Spencer, and Emma; a brother, Harlan Pieper of Clara City, and a sister, Elaine Johnson of Clarkfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milo on February 11, 2017, a brother, Gerald Pieper, a sister, Doris Schei, and an infant brother, Laverne Pieper.

Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service on Saturday, September 30, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin.
