Obituary

The memorial service for Lowell "Red" Sparks will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9th, at the Peace United Methodist Church in Plainview/Elgin, with Pastor Cooper Wiggens officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview, with Graveside Military Rites by the Plainview American Legion Post #179.

Mr. Sparks, 74, of Plainview, died early Thursday morning, July 31, 2014 at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview.

Lowell Lee Sparks was born September 23, 1939 in Dodge Center to Harry and Viola (Barwald) Sparks. In 1960 he married Lois Bennett in Plainview. Red served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, honorably discharged on March 12, 1963.

Red and Lois made their home in Plainview after he was discharged from the Army. He owned and operated the Sparks John Deere Farm Implement in Plainview for 45 years. He was a member of the Plainview American Legion Post #179, and Peace United Methodist Church.

Red is survived by his two sons, David Sparks and Duane Sparks both of Plainview; two grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Sparks and Ronald (Margaret) Sparks; two sisters, Shelly Sparks and Linda (Bill) Buck. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois on August 6, 2012, and daughter, Donna Jean.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, August 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview.
