Margaret Inga Evans' Obituary
The funeral service for Margaret Inga Evans will be on Saturday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview with Pastor John Curtiss officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, April 1, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in rural Plainview/Elgin.
Margaret Evans, 94, of Rochester, and formerly of Plainview, died on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.
Margaret was born June 26, 1922 near Plainview to James and Inga (Christenson) Christison. She graduated from Plainview High School and went on to Winona State to get her normal certificate in teaching. She taught at Woodland School, Pleasant Valley School, and Burnham School. She married Earl E. Evans at Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview on August 5, 1944. They lived on the farm until 1989 when Earl retired from farming and moved to Millville.
Margaret gardened, canned, and sewed for her family. Later she quilted quilts for all the children and many of the grandchildren and the Gopher Gals of Viola. Margaret also worked at Lakeside in the summer and worked at the State Hospital, Gingerbread House Bakery, and Guest House. Margaret was a very active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview, where she held office, taught Sunday school, LOGOS, and participated in many other church activities.
Margaret is survived by her three daughters, Mary Lou (William) Harnack of Racine, Janice (David) Gengler of Edina, and Carol (Matthew) Ellanson of Mantorville; three sons, James (Bonita Hofschulte) Evans of Wanamingo, Kevin (Sally) Evans of Rochester, and Richard (Barbara) Evans of Goodhue; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Audrey Christison of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant daughter, and infant great-granddaughter, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.
Friends may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, Community Presbyterian Church, or Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
