Margaret Verneil Rabe, 99, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday evening, July 3, 2022, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. She was born July 26, 1922, in Gillford Township, Wabasha County, to John and Lucy (Schuman) Wiebusch. Margaret was Baptized on August 13, 1922, and Confirmed on April 5, 1936, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Margaret attended school at Lincoln Country School. She married Clifford Rabe on July 10, 1941. They were married for 80 years, the longest marriage in the State of Minnesota, and second longest in the United States according to the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
The Rabe's farmed until 1960, and then Margaret worked as a salesclerk at Anthony's, Gates Variety, George's Variety Store, Rose Clothing, and Sears in Lake City retiring in 1993. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln, and the Lincoln Ladies Aid since 1983. Margaret belonged to several different card clubs throughout the years.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Glenn) Becklund and Janet (Eugene) Hein both of Millville; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Julia (Harold "Bud") Siefert and Loa (Floyd) Olson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, two brothers, Harold and Ervin Wiebusch and an infant sister, Lucille.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church – Lincoln in rural Lake City with Pastor Dan Reich officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit two hours before the service.
