Obituary

Marguerite Elaine Mitchell, 90, of Rochester and formerly of Hammond, passed away on Saturday morning, January 18, 2025, at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester. She was born on March 16, 1934, in Lanesboro, Minnesota to George and Mildred (Bundy) McGuire. Marguerite grew up and attended elementary school in the Lanesboro area and graduated in 1951 from Rochester High School in Rochester. On September 22, 1951, she married the love of her life, Frank Mitchell, sharing 67 years together raising their four children.

Marguerite was employed at Security State Bank (currently Minnwest Bank) in Hammond for many years. She lived most of her lifetime in the Rochester area, mostly in the Zumbro Falls and Hammond areas. In 2020 she moved to Rochester. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends, playing cards, reading, and doing puzzles.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Barbara "Barb" (Michael) Mathias of Oronoco, Ellen "Ellie" Burnside of Lexington, KY, and James (Rhonda Richardson) Mitchell of Rochester; five grandchildren, Carrie, Melanie, Jamie, Brent, and Eric; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Anabel, Landon, and Morgan; brother, George McGuire of Rochester; a brother-in-law, John (Helen) Mitchell of Faribault, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Riley of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gerald, her husband Frank, a sister Donna, and son-in-law, James Burnside.

Friends & family may visit from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Hammond. Family Service will be held at 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church in Hammond.
