Marlene Margaret Johnson's Obituary
The funeral service for Marlene M. Johnson will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview/Elgin with Pastor Krista Henning-Ferkin and Pastor Richard Hegal officiating. Burial will be in the Union Prairie Cemetery in Lanesboro.
Mrs. Johnson, 77, of Rochester, and formerly of Plainview and Elgin, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester.
Marlene Margaret Carney was born September 2, 1937 in Wabasha to Edward and Agatha (Dahl) Carney. She received her GED and went on to attend the Winona Vo-Tech Secretarial class. In 1953 Marlene married Neil Schwartz and they lived south of Chatfield, he died in May of 1968. On November 6, 1971 Marlene married Everett Orvis Johnson at the St. Charles Bible Church in St. Charles. They made their home in St. Charles for four years and then moved to Elgin in 1975, in 1993 they moved to Plainview. Orvis died in March of 2006 and Marlene continued to live in Plainview until 2012 when she moved to Rochester.
Marlene started her working career doing secretarial work for Jack Bemble Apartments, then worked at the Elgin Creamery and Elgin Bank. She then worked in Rochester at Sadler Properties and then at JC Penney for 13 years.
Marlene enjoyed spending time working in her vegetable and flower gardens, loved spending time with her dog and horses, knitting and crocheting. She especially loved doing things with her family especially going camping and traveling, and spending time with the grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining her friends and family. Marlene was a Charter Member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview/Elgin where she was very active in the church activities and teaching Sunday school.
Marlene is survived by her children, Kathy (Keith) Persons of St. Charles, Julene (Frank) Horstman of Rochester, and Matt Schwartz of St. Charles; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband's Neil and Orvis, and two brothers, Richard and Edward.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
