Marlene Margaret Kackmann, age 83 of Lake City, Minnesota passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Hospital with family by her side.

Marlene was born November 28, 1942, in Lake City, Minnesota to Edwin and Margaret (Stelling) Zimmerman. She grew up in the Millville area attending elementary school at a Wabasha County Rural School and St. John’s Lutheran School. Marlene graduated from Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, Minnesota in 1960. On August 18, 1962, she married Robert Kackmann at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, they enjoyed 64 years together.

The Kackmann's farmed from 1966 to 1996 in rural Lake City and moved into Lake City in 1996. Marlene then worked at Valley Craft for 24 years before retiring. She enjoyed living on the farm, baking and cooking for her family and having her vegetable garden. She especially loved her flower gardens, being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marlene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church; she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Know Your Neighbors Club. She always enjoyed playing cards and spending time visiting with family and friends.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Robert Kackmann; a daughter, Diane (John) Wurst, a son, Dale (Ranae) Kackmann all of Lake City; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service for Marlene will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Thomas Schroeder officiating. The burial will follow the service in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, October 1, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
