The funeral service for Mary J. Craig will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim's Catholic Cemetery in Plainview.
Mrs. Craig, 98, of Chatfield, and formerly of Plainview, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Mary Josephine Flies was born July 14, 1918 in Wabasha County to John and Anna (Kurtz) Flies. She attended Wabasha County rural school and graduated from Kellogg Public School in Kellogg. On December 27, 1945 she married Lester Craig at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester, he passed away March 6, 2002.
Mary lived in Plainview for 50 years and then moved to Rochester for a few years before moving to Chatfield. While living in Plainview Mary owned and operated The Dairy Café in Plainview for many years. She was a member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview and was a former member of the Church Alter Guild. Mary is a member of the Plainview American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time embroidering, and playing cards. She was a fan of baseball especially the MN Twins. Mary always enjoyed spending time visiting with people.
Mary is survived by five daughters, Patty (James) Fritz of Plainview, Barbara (Darryl) Haner of Chatfield, Margaret "Maggie" Craig and Kathy (Jon) Krieger both of Plainview, and Mary Jean Brooker of Clearwater, FL; one son, Joe Craig of Elgin; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, and one son.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
