Maureen Dorothy Byrne, 76, of Wabasha, MN passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Gunderson – St. Elizabeths Hospital in Wabasha, MN with her family by her side. She was born to Dorothy (Kitzmann) & Maurice Paro in Faribault, MN on September 13, 1948.

She got an early start to shenanigans and sarcasm, never taking anything too seriously. She shared a special bond with her mother and continued to hold a special place in her heart, while caring for her during her recuperation of heart surgery.

Maureen joined in marriage with Richard Byrne on July 5, 1969. They added their first-born Corey and later added Katie & Keeley. She was always known as "the cool mom" inviting and welcoming all kids, kids' friends and friends of friends in her home. She hated it when people felt left out and had a huge spot for anyone that had a disadvantage in their own homes. Her family enjoyed camping in Waterville for many years, adding more friends to hold her in her giant heart.

Maureen worked many hours in state hospitals and group homes for those with cognitive and physical disabilities. She had a true compassion for those less fortunate. Moe was always up for an adventure; to "her playground"-the CASINO, exploring new food, shopping, crocheting, giving incredible advice, and sharing her beautiful heart. Her most favorite part of life's journey was being "Grammy". Nothing made her happier than listening to the littlest voices make jokes and say the silliest things all while giggling along with every word they uttered. She was our favorite person, but she was a lot of people's favorite….we will eternally miss her.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Richard, who will sorely miss her loyal companionship and caretaking. She is also survived by son Corey (Heather), daughters Katie (Mike) Streveler, & Keeley (Sean) Roach and grandchildren, Sophia, Dexter, Lillian, Isabel, and Oliver. Two very special nieces, Kathy Fowler and Lynette Smith. As well as a sister and four brothers spread throughout the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy & Maurice Paro, Best Friends & Sisters Mary Jean Karow & Jeanette Mathis, and three fur-babies Charlie, Scout & Pippa Lou.

Maureen's favorite color was coral, we ask that you wear a splash of coral or orange in her honor.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 14, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Thé Hoang and Father, Thomas Loomis officiating. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Internment will be at a later date.
