Paul embarked on the greatest adventure of his life when he met Barbara in Oelwein, IA. They were married April 30, 1967. Their journey began with Paul serving in the Army in Inchon, South Korea. Their more than 56 years together would provide excitement, joy, challenges, and many blessings.

They were blessed with three children Paul Jr., Mike, and Jennifer.  Their blessings grew with Karna and Donna, their daughters-in-law, and their grandchildren: Melissa, Jeffrey and Caleb, Thomas, Abby and Jake, Emma, and Sarah.

Paul's career included working on the railroad and in the grocery business. His years working in the grocery business led him to his favorite work helping others. His career provided many opportunities for himself and his family.  Each new job involved new communities and new lifelong friends. He always found a way to make a difference and brighten the day for those around him. Wherever they were, a Lutheran church would be an important part of his life, faith, and family.

In addition to his deep love for Barbara, he loved dogs and being by water. Paul and Barbara have always been blessed by their dogs, from Pal to Sydney.  Living in Lake City and overlooking Lake Pepin added many wonderful memories to their life.

Paul's faith and family guided him in his fight and now the ultimate victory over cancer.  The care from Mayo Clinic and Mayo Hospice were a blessing that made a difference for him and his family.

He has rejoined his parents Eleanor and Delmer Gifford, his sister Marie Pearson, and other family and friends.

Family will be hosting a Remembrance Service and a Celebration of Paul's Life on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN with Pastor Paul Miller officiating.
