Paul Gerald Miller, 94, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2018 at his home. He was born September 9, 1923 in Algona, Iowa to Earl and Jessie (Cox) Miller. He attended school in Burt, Iowa.
On October 21, 1943 he entered the US Navy and proudly served on the USS Richmond during WWII. He was discharged on March 18, 1946. Paul married Julia Doocy on January 2, 1947 in Bancroft, Iowa. They were married 63 years, and had four children.
The Millers farmed in Iowa for 14 years before moving to a farm in rural Lake City in 1955 and in 1960 they moved into Lake City. Paul was a fork lift driver for Clevite Co. in Lake City for 26 years retiring in 1986. He then worked for the City of Lake City Parks Department, and at Lake Pepin rest area for many years. Paul was a proud member of the Lake City VFW and the Lake City Sportsman Club. He was a past-president of the Lake City Bit and Spur Saddle Club, where he coordinated a trail ride in Lake City with the then-governor Al Quie. He enjoyed raising horses, trail riding, wood working, lawn mowing, and telling jokes and stories to just about anyone who would listen.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Carol Van Houten of Lake City and son, John (Judy) Miller of Apple Valley; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Bernard Miller of Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Julia, daughter Janet Bade, son Gerald, brother, John, sister, Mabeline Lovstad, and son-in-law, Joe Van Houten.
