Obituary

Richard Edward Spurck, 91, of Rochester and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester. He was born January 3, 1932, in Peoria, Illinois, to Peter and Ann (McMahon) Spurck. He graduated from Boy's Center High School in Butte, Montana and then attended the University of Iowa. He married Charlotte Dondlinger on October 20, 1973, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Richard was employed by the Counselor for the Citizen Company on alcohol and drug abuse in Cedar Rapids and later worked as a Parole Officer in Cedar Rapids for many years. He was active in AA and the Civil Rights Movement and participated in marches in Alabama. Richard was also a volunteer on Bobby Kennedy's campaign. In 2018 the Spurck's moved to Rochester to be closer to family.

Richard is survived by many nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Kathleen "Kay" Blattner of Millville, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Dondlinger of Kellogg, and a sister-in-law, Janet Spurck of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Robert, and a sister-in-law.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Cottagewood Senior Living.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, with Father Prince Raja and Father James Russell officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Minneiska.
