Roger William Durgin, 77, of Plainview, MN, died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his home in Plainview surrounded by his family. He was born on November 11, 1946, in Plainview, MN to Franklin and Betty (Tyler) Durgin. Roger attended elementary school at Immanuel Lutheran in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1966. He was drafted in 1966 while still in High School. He went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from 1966 - 1968. He was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart. He was proud of his military service to his country. Roger married the love of his life Sharon Schurhammer on May 5, 1973, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, MN.
Roger lived his lifetime in Plainview. He was employed by Durgin Freight Lines, Plainview Produce, Lawson Products. He then formed his own company, S&R Supply. He operated that for many years. He finished his career working for Federal Mogul in Lake City, MN.
Roger enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, playing golf, bowling, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved to attend auctions and going dancing when he was younger. He enjoyed afternoon coffee hour with "The Good Ole Boys" at Kim's Saloon. Bernie, Jon, Rich, and Roger enjoyed going out for breakfast, drinking coffee, at BJ's Bar and Grill. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. A former member of the Plainview American Legion, where he served two terms as Commander from 1976-77 and 1996-97. He was a current member of the Lanesboro American Legion, Oronoco VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and the Whitewater Gobblers. He enjoyed spending time placing American Flags on deceased veterans grave sites at local cemeteries on Memorial Day. Roger was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1110 SE Minnesota. He was also a current member of the Plainview Planning and Zoning Commission.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Durgin of Plainview; two sons, Randy Durgin and Brian Durgin of Plainview, a daughter, Lisa (Trevor) Schouweiler of Kellogg, MN; four grandchildren, Sophia, Emmerich, Lola, and Hudson; a brother Richard (Rodine) Durgin of Gainesville, FL; a sister, Sharon (Thomas) Hanson of Rochester; and mother-in-law, Lucille Schurhammer of Kellogg. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and father-in-law, Eugene Schurhammer.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. The burial will follow the funeral at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Military graveside honors will be held by Plainview, Elgin, and Millville American Legion Posts. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday.
Roger's family would like to thank Mayo Oncology, Urology, Mayo Hospice, and Gundersen St. Elizabeths Hospital for the exceptional care provided. Roger especially enjoyed visiting with his nurses Kay, Nancy, and his social worker Brent.
